Annuities anyone have one?

Hi I have 230,000 to invest.I am in my early 60s out of work and not alote of social security,I did not plan well for retirement even a little emberessed to come on here but have always got good advice and no judgements.Anyway I need a steady income of around 1,400 a month and supplement that.I am hopefull of getting another job but have not found one as of yet.Someone suggested annuities I have investagated someomewhat I know I would need a fixed immediate one and I know there are hidden charges I need to be carefull.Need some input and hopefully someone who is getting one or someone that has knowledge about them.Not working I feel I need to invest this in something more secure,as I said I know there are pros and cons just need some input.Thank you.
